Photographer's Note
Here's my first attempt using Photoshop Elements, which I got so I can sharpen photos. I'm having trouble resizing it, on my 10th try to get it below 200 kb but not lose sharpness, won’t know until it posts how it looks.
I was on my way to Sequoia National Park and then Yosemite National Park when I came upon this reservoir, Lake Kaweah. I stopped here in the Sierra Nevade foothills to camp, since I wasn't prepared to camp in the snow at the higher elevations. Shortly after setting up my tent at the campground, the sun started to set and offered this nicely lit view of the hills around the lake.
Lake Kaweah was formed when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a dam here in 1962 to provide flood protection and irrigation water to the city of Visalia and surrounding agricultural land. The winter snowmelt collects here, then is released during the summer for irrigating crops. This photo is from April, when the water level is pretty high, which you can see by the trees in the lake that are normally part of the shoreline. About 1/4 of the campground was under water.
A hydroelectric power plant was constructed here in 1990 and it produces enough electricity to save 67,000 barrels of oil annually.

Light is very magical in this picture. It's a wonderful landscape and very peaceful.
I enjoy this composition.

Hi Dave,
Magical light ... adds a whole different emotion to the flooded land than I would associate with the rest of the scene .. beautiful.
I don't know elements .. are you sharpening after you reduce to 800 pixels .. after that in photoshop there is a "save for web" feature that will let you tug a bit more resolution out of it by tossing all the added record data photoshop normally adds into a .jpg
