Photographer's Note
There are dark spots on the corners because of the wide angle, this is my first experiment with 10mm focal length, and these spots appear on all of them. Is this a common problem?
The photo was taken at Waimanolo Bay, about 24 hours ago. Finding an empty beach on Oahu is almost impossible, this was taken early in the morning, and a nasty head-on collision was delaying beachgoers on the road next to this beach. Both cars looked totalled, not sure about fatalities.

Hej Tan,
Great view of the sea here. I like there's water in the total bottom left hand corner, a good POV. The colours are also very nice. Good work!

Nice shot with good POV. Strong colours. The polariser has done its work well.
Unfortunately I suspect the polariser is also the cause of the darkening (vignetting) of the corners. That is always a potential problem with ultra wide angle lenses. You may be able to avoid it by using slim filters but I believe they can be expensive.

Good shot and lovely place, but I would crop the picture and cut these black corners. It`s a result of using a polarizer on your wide angle lens. Try to find a slim version of this filter. Otherwise you will never eliminate dark spots on the corners.
Some details on the foreground would help to create a perspective on this shot...
Fantastic colours!!!!!

Hola Tan. Quite a nice place, you were lucky to find it empty. About the lenght, I heard is usual. I love the effect of the polarizer on the clouds, and the sense of freedom. A great place to swimm, or so I think.

Hi Tan - it's a fantastic viewpoint, the wide angle really works well & the colours are superb. The clarity in the water is particularly good.
As for the vignette effect - well, it doesn't bother me at all, my only guess is that it could be the filter*, but that's just a guess. you could always crop it out.
*And now I see other comments that suggest the same thing!

Hi Tan.
I love the effect of polarisers in skies and water, mainly when the picture is taken in paradise like this one.
Vignetting used to appear in lower quality wide-angle lenses, but not so obvious as in your picture. I´m pretty sure the problem is the filter and not the lens.
Keep on shooting with your 10-22!

Great wide angle shot Tan, with incredible saturated colours and the close-up of the beach and waves contrasting with the mountains behind. Regarding the dark corners, I get this sometimes too, and it's caused by the lens being so wide that it is actually catching part of the filter. There are only three ways to avoid it - don't go all the way to the widest focal length, don't use a filter, or if you do use a filter, use a special thin filter. Great work, as usual!

yes that vignetting is a problem, I am glad you let it seen to us, because I would be a super wide lens to. I dont know what it would be. But I thin I go for the Tokina 12-24.
The composition farther is nice the good depth the wide angle composition is a succes. good job.

Hi Captain,
You get difficult to follow... Oman-Alaska-Hawaii, hot-cold-hot, are you trying to burn your miles before they get invalid ?
Maybe not the most adventurous compo, but certainly efficient, with excellent light and clarity to be seen in the water. Good polarization but you can see on the sides it is less attractive at this UGA than on the middle focals, and your pola must be a thick one to produce this vignetting, which one did you get ?
Last but not least, congratulations for having bought a fine lens ;-))
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hello Tan,
Hawaii, a place that many of us dream about... Maybe a little crop would have made this one even better (we can see in each corner the "marks" of the used filter). Allthough a splendid picture !

Luc.

Hi Tan
Looks like you are enjoying some nice spring weather on your travels! Great use of your super wide angle lens, a very good purchase ;-) As for the vignetting, yes, I get the same when I use a polariser. I guess the wide angle is just so wide that even the few mm of filter obstruct. It is possible to get extra thin polarisers which are supposed to avoid this but haven't looked into. Normally I just avoid shooting at 10mm or crop afterwards. As for the shot, what a lovely classic view. The water is just so inviting and the colours and clarity are so crisp.

Hello Tan, it's amazing to see this beautiful beach deserted. It's a shame that it is so because of tragic circumstances. I love the crystal clear water and the distant mountains, also the beautiful clouds that always seem to grace your photos.

Tan that 10-22 mm capture has confirmed to me that this is the next lens on my list to buy. I can see all sorts of possibilities with the wide angle range. Excellent color with the polarizer. I see a little dark edges on the corners. Is that because the filter does not quite fit with this lens? Good work..I love it!

Hi Tan
Yes I know this problem due to filters - specially two filters at the same time gives me problems.
I like the lines of this beach and the different levels and water and surfaces - thanks for this lovely view.

Hello Tan,
with such a lens you need a slim polarizer filter. What you see is most probably part of a thick filter rather than part of the lenshood. As far as I can say this is a nice picture and apart from the bad luck with the filter a good one, but compared to what you posted as scans from the Fuji slides there is a world between digital and film.
For landscape wideangles there is still no alternative to film, not in lens and not in filter effect quality.
