Photographer's Note

These are typical fences found in the mountains near my home. I suppose they are so common because the wood used to build them is scattered all over the ground in the many forests: Lodgepole Pine. These same logs are used to make teepee poles.

I remember as a boy of 15 making many of these fences for the U.S. Forest service.

The fences change here to make it easier for snowmobiles to travel across. They simply lay down part of the fence when the snow comes.

Snowmobiling is hugely popular here. I find the machines a bit smelly and noisy, but even I have indulged when invited by friends or family.
