Photographer's Note

Silver Lake Dunes is a remarkable nature preserve along the shoreline of Lake Michigian near Ludington, a quiet town in western Michigan. A vast expanse of sand dunes separates Lake Michigan from Silver Lake, a smaller inland lake. The dunes seem endless, especially when you're climbing one that appears to have no definite top. You just keep making your way upwards until finally the dune levels out, and then you go down the other side and climb up and down more dunes until you finally reach Lake Michigan. A refreshing swim in the cold waters of the Great Lake is the best reward you could receive for having walked across the dunes for hours.
