Photographer's Note
Christmas in NYC is a magical time. There are certain things that represent the season, sights that locals and tourists look forward to each year. Here is one sign that the holidays are approaching: displays of giant decorations outside of office buildings.
There is a stretch of several blocks on Sixth Avenue near Rockefeller Center, where fun displays make people stop and take notice. Here it seems that some giant Christmas lights have fallen to the ground, complete with wires and a giant electrical plug. :-)
This display is in front of the McGraw-Hill Building. These lights are actually illuminated at night, and they are energy-efficient LED bulbs.
Have a great holiday season everyone! :-)

Hello Elaine,
These things look to me like some Christmas missiles that had to remain in the US after the government decided after all not to send them to Syria. I wonder who came up with the idea of this kind of Christmas decorations. As an experienced photographer you waited for the girl to step inside the frame. Her green and black mittens go very well with the "missiles". This is an enjoyable big city photo with very good light.
Kind regards,
Gert

Good December morning, Brenda!
Well, we have the real snowy storm today. It needs video camera, no photo ;))
Glad to see so calm and picturesque NYC on your photo. Thanks for note, I remember these places.
Best wishes,

Hello Brenda,
Christmas really is a magical time in New York city. I like the composition here with the passerby on her cell phone, and the colossal Christmas tree lights lying on the ground, ready to be strung up.
Warm regards, Brenda,
Bulent

Hi Brenda,
Brilliant! I have seen the giant clothes peg before, so always assumed New York to be land of the giant things, but the giant christmas lights are a new one to me :) An excellent idea for decorating the streets. Fantastic capture too, including the woman in the scene shows exactly how big these are! I love the vivid colors against the grey building too, it makes them really stand out
All the best

Leave it to NYC to make things bold and to stand out!!!!
Fun way to get the people of the city into the Christmas spirit.
Love these types of scenes, and i'd love to see similar set ups along this or any other street.
Cool post

Hi Brenda,
A very fine combination of those straight lines and geometrical patterns from the background buildings and the irregular and colourful forms of the Christmas decorations (lipsticks?). The girl walked into the picture at the right moment to be included and to bring necessary life to the scene.
Kind regards

Hello Brenda,
Like Gert has mentioned these lights look a bit like missiles. Perhaps it will look different in the evening. Anyway, here they bear the message of peace.
The lines of the buildings behind them provide an interesting graphical effect.
Merry Christmas and a happy end of the year, Paul

Hello Brenda,
A lovely street scene from NYC. The lights make a nice colored band in between the two grey layers.
A Merry Christmas to you and to your loved ones!

Hi Brenda,
I hope you're starting to thaw out now, I can't believe how cold it was throughout the country. It's hard for me to really understand the last few days, I've watched the news, but I look outside and see nothing but sunshine and feel the warmth...still trying to wrap my brain around it!?
This is such a great and unique photo, I hope there was a tree big enough somewhere for these to be placed. ;) Instantly reminded me of the old school, giant house bulb strands that my grandparents used to have. This has a nostalgic association for me, I really like this capture and presentation. Including the gal on the left was wise to detail the sense of scale. Bright, colorful and full of holiday fun. Some post holiday cheer, thanks for the smiles.
Friendly and warm wishes (literally),
Jason

hi brenda. i was feeling a bit late to compare these giant LEDs to missiles or lipsticks, and i am right, those similes are taken before :) i guess these settings were only for the season, and are not there any more. creative idea of the company and once more an original share from NYC.

Hi Brenda,
it is said that everything is big in US but this is almost crazy:) Excellent composition, especially with the woman who are entering this scene from the left. I like the vertical lines of the buildings in the background. It is also good light and colors, well done!
Have a nice evening/

Hi Brenda. In this photo combines the normal life with modern art. The new way of life gets the people very well. The Colorful and oversized simply part of modern life. Well seen and photographed. I like the photo.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

Hi Brenda,
A great piece of artwork, nice and colorful. It stands out against the grey buildings behind. The person walking by gives a sense of scale. Good composition and exposure.
