Photographer's Note

The South side of Miami Beach, so-called Southbeach, was built in the 1920s when the Art Deco style of architecture was popular. It was favoured by the rich, celebrities and criminals alike. Then in the 1950s the city's popularity waned and many of the deco architecture became delapidated. In the 1980s Miami Beach underwent a revival and most of the old Art Deco buildings were renovated. Other new construction also maintained the unique Art Deco style and it has become known as Tropical Deco. Today it's a veritable outdoor museum of Art Deco architecture.
