Photographer's Note

Floating Island lake, Yellowstone national park, Wyoming, USA.
Floating Island Lake is a lake situated along the south side of Grand Loop Road at the base of Crescent Hill, approximately 3.2 miles west of Tower Junction. It gets its name from the tiny "island" that appears to be "floating" near its western edge. There is a turnout for vehicles to pull off the road. The lake is the site of a lot of avian activity, including the small island where ducks and geese of various types often build nests. Sandhill Cranes often use it, as well as the occasional Trumpeter Swan. It is not uncommon to see moose, muskrat, and bears in/near Floating Island Lake.
The water source for the lake is a small underground spring situated off a channel on its southwest side. The lake is fishless.
