Descanso Gardens, " Place of Rest", has many different gardens within its' boundaries. The original owner of the land, an E. Manchester Boddy owned a book company and a newspaper in L.A. and purchased the land for Rancho del Descanso in the 1920s'. He loved horticulture and plant science and created a camellia garden. the ranch was opened to the public in 1952. The ranch was then sold to the County of Los Angeles and is non- profit.
This photo is the Fern Canyon and was cultivated. The live oaks are indigenous to this area and I will post a photo of the live oak garden in the future.
