Photographer's Note
Currently, Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa is displaying his latest artwork in Madison Square Park, just north of the Flatiron Building. It is a 44 foot (1341 cm) monolith entitled "Echo".
The work is based on a nine year old girl from the artist's Barcelona neighborhood, and it depicts her in a state of thought and dreams. It also makes reference to the figure of Echo from Greek mythology.
On a beautiful spring day people were enjoying the sun on the Oval Lawn, next to the peaceful statue, who also seemed to be enjoying the lovely weather. :-)
***Technical note: the head may appear to be distorted in this photo, but that is the actual shape. It is a bit flatter than an actual face.

He Brenda,
What a gorgeous day! As for Jaume's Plensa's statue, the proportions are not quite right, but they remind me of the "Coneheads" of Saturday Night Live of a generation ago. I like the vantage point you've chosen, depicting the head symmetrically.
Warm regards, Brenda. Incidentally, I started writing a blog for National Geographic, and I plan to use some of the interminable notes I write for Trekearth. If you get a chance, take a look at Remebering Gallipoli I: Anzac Day and Remembering Gallipli II: Resurrecting Ismail Hakki.

Hi Brenda
looks like we've both posted Artwork photos.
thanks for this unique looking post, we don't normally see this park from NYC - thanks for sharing this one.
the strange looking face is certainly an eye catcher, looking over the people like their protector.
have a great day

Hello Brenda,
as I see,it is the same artist who created the Crown Fountain in Chicago.I like this one too.Thats what I like in USA,namely the variety of Artworks located in parks,in front of many buildings,or in other publicly accessible locations. So everyone can find something interesting.I like the way you framed the picture, with a lot of people having a rest around this sculpture.
Have a nice day

Brenda - I have just seen another version, this time in a brown colour, at one of the stately house in England - Chatsworth House. You have a good capture here with all the people sate around - the perspective is hard to show in a photo but is amazing in real life.

Hi Brenda,
I can't bear to watch the World Series, so I thought I'd jump back on TE for a bit and found this...to say the least, interesting piece of work! :)
Art certainly takes many forms and is undoubtedly subjective...so it goes without saying that it really is in the eyes of the beholder. Although this appears to be a great day to be outside on the lawn, I think I might be a little put off by this enormously large and misshapen head. Artistic, yes....creepy, yes! lol
On the technical side though, well done on the exposure to keep the bright white in balance and not have any super heavy shadows where essential detail would get lost. I actually like too that this is placed in the middle of the frame, but just above center point..it works well in this situation.
Well, here's to next years baseball season, I suppose I'll just have to live with the outcome this go 'round!? Have a great day ahead. Take it easy.
Friendly wishes from Az.,

Hi Brenda
Perfect composition of this most unusual dominating subject - a real cool and catchy sculpture in deep meditation! Including the people has given it a great sense of scale and vitality and I also love the setting lushness of green environment has made a very fine subject for a photograph. Excellent oolours, clarity and sharpness. Thanks for sharing this unusual scene. Congrats
