Photographer's Note

This is the front porch of the Green Roof Inn, a Bed & Breakfast in Ironton, Missouri. Ironton is the county seat of Iron County - much of this county lies in the Arcadia Valley of Missouri. From a local tourist site:

"Arcadia Valley is located just 80 miles south of St. Louis. It is nestled among the highest mountains of the Missouri Ozarks. It is drained by rushing mountain streams and is home to the cities of Arcadia, Ironton and Pilot Knob, all founded in the 1800s. Each retains its own charm and personality. Because of its elevation, clean air, and the rolling mountains which surround it, the Valley has been compared to the rolling mountains of New England."

This really is one of the best parts of Missouri, it is especially nice because it is only a short drive from St. Louis - excellent for a day trip. When my dad was alive he would take relatives and visitors to this area to visit Elephant Rocks State Park, Fort Davidson in Pilot Knob, Johnson Shut Ins State Park and Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. My dad really loved this area, he could give you a tour like no other.

Anyway, this is about the photo, not an advertisement for Missouri tourism. I didn't know the name of this building until today!

I took this the same morning as this one. It was early in the morning and the sun was full on this building, highlighting the white painted porch railings and the red brick of the facade. It threw some great shadows across the windows. I liked the light, symmetry and shadows in this photograph, which, as you can tell from the panoramic crop, started out a little differently. I made this crop to accentuate the symmetry.

I had a nice spring morning the day I got this shot. I'm looking forward to some more of those days soon!

Have a great week!
