Photographer's Note

The weather and visibility was perfect on a commercial Spokane-Seattle flight from which I took this photo. The view is looking northwest over Lake Chelan, Washington. Notice how visible the small mountain roads are on the near shore of the lake.

This one-mile wide lake is 50 miles long. Lake Chelan has maximum depth of 1,486 ft, making it the third deepest lake in the country and is a great introduction to the North Cascade Mountains and National Park.

During the summer a tour boat "Lady of the Lake" will take hikers the entire 50 miles from the town of Chelan (on SE shore) to the end of the lake where trail heads open up to the wilds of North Cascades National Park.
