Photographer's Note
When you are in the tulip fields, you are in a world of pure colour, almost overwhelming in it's abundance and intensity. The area around La Conner is well known for growing flowers, especially tulips, and every April they have a tulip festival. Early in the morning the serious photographers are out, raiding the fields for good shots while the light is interesting and before too many people get there. In this case, I was out in the field taking some pictures when I looked around and saw this lady nearby. I just turned and shot very quickly and caught her in the act (ever noticed how when photographers are at work they resemble hunters stalking their prey?). A second later I took another shot but she had already straightened and was walking away. After all the careful composititions and painstaking attention to detail for the classic tulip field shots, this spontaneous effort turned out to be my favourite shot from the whole trip.

Wonderful shot, Alvin. The tulips themselves are just astonishing, but they are made even more so by the wonderful contrast in the blue of the lady's clothing. Perfect moment to catch her in the act and great composition. No wonder it is a favorite shot. Best wishes,

Hi Alvin... This is such a great contrast that looks like the old thecnicolor films of the 50´s, even I should say it has an oniric touch that I love. About the composition, I find a good idea not to see but the flowers and the woman, avoiding any other reference and making the message more stronger. Thanks.

Hello Alvin,
An outstanding photo! I like this version even better than your last post. Some viewers may not like the photographer in the photo but I consider this rendition more dynamic and more interesting. The lady's sky blue sweater adds a good counterbalance to the sea of red tulips. Outstanding!

Great idea to capture this serious photographer in amongst the sea of tulips. The tulips are just glorious as is you image of them. I like that you have included the other colour across the top. Very nice.

Hello Alvin,
I see many, many (did I say it?) pictures here on TE and outside too of tulips. Tulip is not my favorite flower. In fact, I find it quite boring. But, I have to say that this photo made me stop. I just sat comfortably in my chair and looked at it. Mesmerized. And, slowly, a big smile in my face. Truly enjoyable from one corner to the other. But, I tell you, that lady in blue is a must! Her posture, her immersion in what she is doing, her beautiful beret, her hands... Delectable! The rest... oh you know Alvin, you know how to make a photo!
Thanks for that beauty!

A lovely spontaneous moment captured here, Alvin. The tulip field in the good lighting would already make a fine subject by itself, but the photo gets elevated by the presence and posture of the photographer, not least due to the fine color contrast delivered by her blue coat. Very nicely seen and captured. Greetings from Tokyo.

Hi Alvin. That last picture I posted of the photographer and cherry blossoms was the same way and I had no time to think about it. Sometimes its better just to let your instincts take over. Hi Alvin,
It's quite a rare opportunity to see a person in one of your shots and like the friends who have left a comment here before me it really rocks, the combination of the two main colors is very harmonious and powerful and the clever close framing concentrates on the simplicity and the action, I clap both hands to validate your "bird of prey" license ;-)

Hello Alvin,
You've created a classic in this image! The previous image you had submitted was excellent: demonstrating a symmetric one-point perspective, the "parallel lines" converging at a single vanishing point on the horizon. This one has human element integrated, the colors and definition are even more dramatic, especially with the woman with camera taking her own photographs.

Hello Alvin,
Definitely the best I've seen today, pure beauty that makes me wonder how can anything be that beautiful. The lady looks like a predator who wants to steal a part of this innocent beauty, it's good u caught her, maybe someone caught u 2:) Ok the note, but I think u didn't say the most important thing here-what's the feeling like being there, the shot is great, but what about feelings that reached even us who watch your photo.
I greet u.

Hi Alvin,
Not only that I opened this one and expecting
only flowers, but then when I spotted that someone
in the field, I couldn't have believed the character!!!
An absolute eye-catcher with great light and colours.
If only you had a ladder to acquire a bit higher POV
(to have a uniformed BG, instead of that line of
differently coloured tulips at the top), it would've
been a million-dollar shot!
But knowing it was either shoot or miss the whole scene,
the result is great.
Congratulations,

Hi Alvin,
Just returned from France and the UK and still jet lagged - but had to stop by and compliment you on this outstanding shot. Your note well describes the way photography works, in that despite good lighting conditions and the best laid plans, in the end some truly first rate shots are obtained through both skill and opportunism. You seized the moment here and as a result the photo is virtually a classic. The contrasting colour of the woman's clothing is perfect, as is her positioning in the scene. A photo to savour for years to come. Cheers.

The picture as well as the title are very very interesting. Usually people say that a little red spot in a picture can balance a lot of blue but you have achieved excellent effect by reversing this rule of thumb.
I envy you for having seen this with your own eyes. Here in India, I don't think I have ever seen tulips like this.
