Photographer's Note
This is taken from the Rim Village at Crater Lake, looking toward Wizard Island. The link will take you to the Nationtional Park Website where, in addition to a map, there are links to everything you might want to know about Crater Lake.
Last fall we took out son to visit, thinking it would be about a two hour drive from our little Deschutes River cabin. The north entrance was closed for the winter after a recent snowfall so it was about a four hour drive. One the way, we stopped at a frozen Dianond Lake so our son could get in his daily bike ride. When we went to pick him up, a bear crossed through the camping area. When he didn't show up when expected, we started 'joking' that we hoped he hadn't been eaten by a bear.

Hola Pat,
Nice image and the winter elements make it even more attractive. I'm glad the bear was just an attraction and not a nuisance :-) If it weren't for the trees I would think this is an alien land. The view seem pristine and that tree on the left frames the composition well. Thanks Pat.

Bonjour Pat
Un superbe cliché bien lumineux avec cet arbre qui capte bien le regard qui est ensuite attiré vers les montagnes enneigées.
Bravo - merci pour le partage et bonne journée.

Hi Pat,
Beautiful realisation where colours are delightful. All these tones softly blending together, clouds varying their shapes and textures. The composition is daring, with a large piece filling the space. But that's exactly why it's so stunning, influencing the perception of the viewer with this dead tree, making the landscape looks more rugged, despite its magnificience.
Excellent work!

Hello Pat,
This is a reminder winter soon will show its paw..!
I notice this was last year but soon we're there again...
This is a well balanced composition where the dying trees make a fine frame, excellent colours!

Hello Pat
I missed Crater lake and now I am gutted. I think all the lakes in America were doing me in at the time after seeing umpteen lakes in a matter of weeks, but it gives me a reason to go back again one day. Its a super winter scene with the tree rising all the way up into the sky. The lake looks very smooth and them blue tones are to die for. The polarizer has added some nice saturation to the whole image and the clean crisp whites from the snow are a bonus. Top work as usual.
Cheers

Hello Pat! This lake is full of surprises. I have never seen it with snow, what a new discovery and I just asked myself why we always travel in summer but that winter could also be a solution. The blues and the whites are a combination that I always love and I mean the trees hanging in give a wonderful foreground that I reall like. Beautiful photo work ... Barbara.

Hi Pat. Magical shades of blue, superb clarity and wonderful light both near and afar. The tree has a strong presence and is delineated so vividly thanks to the light and the blue sky. The island and the rim of the crater draw our eye deeper into the enchanting scene. Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Pat.
This is a fantastic photo. The sharpness is amazing, the mainly blue colour tones so rich, and the composition truly superb and giving so much depth. Perhaps I would have cloned out the branch in the top left corner, but I'm not sure about that. It hardly matters. This is a beautiful bright shot of an early autumn scene in a lovely natural environment. Well done.

Andrew

Pat,
I have just one word for this - WOW! :)) I don't like cold, but your photo makes me wish for winter and snow, imagine that! the clarity is amazing, the cold seems to radiate from the ice blue sky, love it. the tree in the foreground works really well both as an accent and also as a way to add depth to the scene. I myself don't feel comfortable with vertical formats, but here it's the only format that fits. superb work, my compliments.
best,
Kristine

hello pat
the blue is fantstic in this one (both in the sky and in the water/ice), but um... something does not balance out compositionally here. as if the trees (the white parts of them) are trying to look to the left and there... they're cut off abruptly. unfortunately, i think, that's the best how i can desribe my feeling :)
kind regards,
kristaps

Like the previous one this composition gets its strength from foreground pines. This has even more wintery feeling with dominating blues and snowy slopes in shadow. Very fresh feeling, I can guess how cold wind blows over there.

Hello Patricia,
Oh my, i missed this one, what a shame because this is a real beauty. It's the claity of the image, you fresh air you almost can feel which is dominating this image. Wizard island lies proud in the middle with a tiny bit of snow on top...wow, i wish i could have seen that.
Seeing these stunning American icons, i can only conclude you live in a wonderful area...sometimes that makes me real jealous.
Kind regards, Henk

This is an amazing shot Pat...love the beauty you've captured here. The snow, the tree bending down as if it wants to reach the lake...the fantastic view of the blue water of the Carter lake & the fine polarised blue sky. It's not often that we see landscape shots in vertical format, but this works really well. Super!!

Pat,
such a typical landscape impression of Crater Lake. Not only the water is blue ... Everything is blue. Marvelous! The snow on the rim and along the tree (that must have been a terrible wind) provide the perfect contrast to the blue madness.

Hi Pat,
Your photo has a light and a few extraordinary colors, which give a great beauty at sight on this wonderful landscape.
The vertical setting with the tree in foreground works very well, to lead our look to the already snow covered mountains in October, and towards the beautiful blue lake.
A great capture.

Hi Pat,
Hope you and yours are well. One of my favorite places on Earth .. that I have not visited since childhood .. the vivid blues and contrast make this image leap from the thumbnail .. and it does not disappoint when opened .. the foreground to distance dimension, scale, and vastness are tremendous .. and most importantly you can taste the air from this .. wonderful image. take care, John

I was having a look at some of the shots you posted during my 'hibernation'. The snow at Crater Lake makes it look even more beautiful. I love the light on those branches coming in from the left. You also found a new composition from one of the famous viewpoints. Excellent shot. Hope things are still positive!
