Photographer's Note

A wooden ladder leads the way in and out of a subterranean ceremonial kiva atop the mesa at Puye, New Mexico. The cliff dwellings around the area, established in the late 1200s have been declared a National Historic Monument. I liked the way the midday sunlight came in through the only opening in the kiva as we waited in the dark.
