Bandelier National Monument
New Mexico
Taken from Bandelier National Monument from the Alcove House, which was formerly called the Ceremonial Cave. It is reached by a series of long wooden ladders (see workshop). This site, elevated 140 feet above the Frijoles Canyon, was once home to 25 Ancestral Pueblo people. Oh, and blue sky--the sun finally came out.
From the National Park Service Site: "The ancestors of modern Pueblo people built thriving communities in the area called Bandelier about 600 years ago. Several thousand Ancestral Pueblo dwellings are found among the pink mesas and sheer-walled canyons. The best-known archeological sites, in Frijoles Canyon near the Visitor Center, were inhabited from the 1100s into the mid-1500s." -http://www.nps.gov/band/
The area was designated a monument in 1916. Between 1934 and 1941 workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) worked from a camp constructed in Frijoles Canyon, building the road into Frijoles Canyon, the current visitor center, a new lodge, and miles of trails. For several years during World War II the park was closed to the public and the Bandelier lodge was used to house Manhattan Project scientists and military personnel.

Hi Amber:
Really like your composition here, with the canyon walls sweeping one way and then the other across the picture. I think the foreground is a hair dar, but it's hard to get a good exposure in the strong sun like this. Great color in the rocks though.

Hi Amber,
Great pov, impressive nature! I like the way you made the compo, with the rock surface on one half and the view through the canyon and that picturesque sky on the other half.
It looks like a rewarding climbing.
The WS's are a good complement that enable us a good perspective of the site. In both of them, the ladders make them very interesting compo wise, specially on the first one.
Funny name (Beans Canyon :-)...

Hi Amber,
You has a very beautiful gallery. This one is very interesting. The POV is very good, this vertical wall at right give us an idea of the vastness of this canyon. The vegetation is very well saturated and rendered and the sky, the beautiful sky, is perfect for the light and the general impression of this image. I like a lot. Thanks.
Regards,
Angel.

Hi Amber, great shot. The colours are very rich and saturated. The centre of the shot is a little dark and might benefit from being lightened a bit. However, a superb view and extremely well composed and taken. Best wishes, Paul.
