Photographer's Note

It's so hard to capture the breathtaking view of the night sky from the top of Mauna Kea in a simple photograph -- from horizon to horizon, the sky is just DENSE with stars unlike anything we ever see in our light-polluted city life. The 10 MB version of this shot at full 21 megapixel resolution (which you can see here) does the scene more justice than the TrekEarth 300 kB standard can, but this is a hint, anyway. Taken at 16mm and a 50-second exposure at ISO 1000 on the 5DM2.
