Photographer's Note
Fort Point was built between 1853 and 1861 by Army engineers. When the civil war began, it was armed with 55 guns and 11 mortars. Later on, hollow-cast iron guns were installed. During World War II rapid fire cannons and searchlights were added to guard the enterance to the San Francisco Bay. In all its history, no shots were ever fired.
