Photographer's Note

The Russian River is a major river for Nature and humans, in Northern California. It had numerous different names but the last one stuck due to the 19th century presence of Russians colonizing the area, building Fort Ross 16 kilometers north of this location. The Russians had multiple purposes, colonizing and claiming a chunk of the New World in upper California, hunting seals and beavers, and growing hemp and produce.

This view is from a campground in the small River oommunity of Duncan Mills at sunrise. The area is very popular with fishermen, kayakers and rafters.
