Because my previous upload was black and white, I decided to share now quite a colourful scene for a change. Los Angeles Chinatown is probably smaller or at least less popular than Chinatowns in San Francisco or New York. It is probably not a place which tourists in LA would intend to visit. But it is their loss. In addition to Chinatown in Los Angeles you can find parts of town called Little Ethiopia, Thaitown, Little Armenia, Little Bangladesh, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, etc. Many places do not carry explicit names but are inhabited by people from certain countries. I had the pleasure to live for about a year in Persian part of the town and I did some shopping in a Jewish area. Among Asian communities in LA the largest is probably Koreatown. Sometimes people living in those areas don’t speak English. I remember being invited by our Taiwanese friends to Sunday morning dim sum in Chinatown. We were lucky to have them because the waiters didn’t speak English at all and there wasn’t any printed menu. I don’t eat meat except chicken so to avoid funny situations I asked if they could order for me rather something sweet, a desert maybe. Much to my surprise I got some sort of dirty-green coloured jelly made of lotus. Well, I am a picky eater and I don’t like Asian food. What I liked very much in California was Mexican cuisine. By the way, over 50% of LA is inhabited by people from Mexico, that area is simply called East Los Angeles as opposed to West Los Angeles which includes the richer areas like Beverly Hills.
The photo presents a view from Los Angeles Chinatown. Further in the centre you can spot a statue of Sun Yat-sen.

Hello Mariusz,
The red tiles of the gateway contrast superbly with the bg blue sky. Good sharpness and this could easily pass as the real thing from China, rather than a fake Hollywood film set. I see a statue of Confucius in the bg as well. Tfs!

Ciekawa notatka o miescie , dzielniach i jego mieszkancach. W tym miejscu mozna sie poczuc troche jak w Chinach - ciekawy fragment miasta.

Hello Mariusz,
An excellent photo of this Chinatown gate in LA. I remember seeing similar ones in DC and SF as well. You had a very bright light here and I like the many warm colours in front of the blue sky.

Mariusz, that big gate welcomes the visitors to Chinatown Los Angeles. The phote note explains well the diversity that exists in the city. Good memory. Fine colors, excellent sharpness, regards.

Ha! Ha! I smiled when reading your notes, at the thought of trying to order food with waiters who did not speak English! 😂
This is a very attractive, Chinese building, detailing all the usual curved roofs.
I would not have expected it to be in Los Angeles.
You have done well to include the whole of the building in the frame, adding figures for scale and another Chinese building for a sense of depth
My warm regards,
Bev 😊
