Photographer's Note

The Luna moth is a type of giant silk moth fantastically colored pale green with a green, brown, and white "eye" on each of its wings. It has long, sweeping lower wing-tails. The moth’s wings span from 3 to nearly 8 inches across. The female emits a chemical pheromone from her antennae which the male senses with his more extensive antennae. As a chemical sensor, the antennae help in aiding the male in finding the female when she emits a chemical pheromone at just the right time. Male and female moths mate at night, for about four hours.

Adult Luna Moths have no mouth - they eat nothing.

I found this one under the eave of a garage behind my house. I wanted to get a full body shot to show the beautiful wings, but the background came out too distracting.
