Photographer's Note

The Herman Baer House, at 221 7th St., was built about 1880. It's a magnificent Queen Anne on a corner lot. It features the characteristic steep, high-pitched hipped and gabled roof with multiple intersections, an elaborate, decorated wrap-around porch with turned columns and balustrade, wood siding and fish scale shingles on the gable ends and walls, a corner six-sided turret with a concave, curvilinear asphalt shingle roof, and decorative patterns, brackets and gables on the porch roof projections and roof rake overhangs. This is a very elaborate and lovely house, which is one of the more recognizable ones in the Belle Grove District.
