Photographer's Note

Like many other TE members, I have been looking through my archives for photos to post. This is a view of St. Patrick’s Cathedral on a formerly busy Fifth Avenue. In the foreground, a shadow of the well-known statue of Atlas spreads across the ground.

Atlas is a bronze statue created by sculptors Lee Lawrie and Rene Chambellan, and installed in 1937. It depicts the ancient Greek Titan Atlas holding the heavens on his shoulders. This sculpture was made in the Art Deco style, and is the largest sculpture in Rockefeller Center.

Followers of Craig (macjake) might remember that he photographed a famous model on this spot a few years ago. Craig and I were supposed to meet in front of this statue, but due to a misunderstanding we missed each other. Craig got to meet a supermodel, and we had a nice meeting the following day. I took some photos, including this one, while I was waiting for Craig that first day.

In the WS is the actual sculpture.
