Photographer's Note
Second kodackrome slide scanned, hope it will be better than the others.
What I am surprised today is to notice that the twins towers were without buildings around at the béginning, except the old one very little... did they were so close the water ?
(I keeped the paper around the slide, looks rétro! )
I you like this picture, tell me it !

Hi Pierrot,
for slide dated 1971, it looks fantastic!
Have you worked on it after scanning or is the sharpness original?
Very nice and crisp,
Robi

An unusual document on these two, which were always the pretext for graphically interesting pictures.
Congrats

Bonsoir Pierrot,

Very nice shot of them under construction. They looked really impressive when they were the first buildings on the shore. The soaring lines are very well shot. The composition is perfect capturing them standing tall over the older buildings beside them. And the way the building sort of fades into the grid pattern beneath the facade is well shown.
In response to your question... The buildings were originally built on the shore of Manhattan. However to create the foundations they had to excavate a lot of earth. To save money they simply placed all that earth next to the shoreline. In this photo you can see the new earth before it was levelled. This created 20-30 acres of new land beside the towers. It stayed empty for over a decade. In the 1980s the World Financial Center and Battery Park City were built on this landfill. And so the bottom of the World Trade Center was hidden behind the new buildings of the World Financial Center.

Wow very cool to see a shot of the actual build of the towers.
The quality is still very good after all these years.
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards,
Hans

Very nice photo of the Full Size towers. Gives a very interesting historical view. I didn't thought that the space around it existed - I thought the other buildings that hide the first part were built at the same time.
thanks

Hi Pierrot,
Thanks for sharing this fantastic picture. It brings back memories of a school trip to New York and a visit to one of the top unfinished floors of the World Trade Center. Great scanning job to produce such clarity.
Cheers,
Michael

Wow, this is VERY interesting! Especially for me, because I used to work in that, that seems little (about 20 floors though) building with an interesting roof, that is seen against the WTC-2. Its address is 90 West Street... It was a good time, there used to be very good concerts in summer between the towers, different kind of music every day... It used to be a very nice area, close to the river, where they built a great promenade, from which one can see the Statue of Liberty. It is a very interesting photo for me, really TFS! This is history!
