Photographer's Note

It looks like the weather is improving now, but here’s one more shot from a snowy walk around my neighborhood last week. Maybe this won’t be as interesting to others as it has always been to me, but in my Brooklyn neighborhood there exists NYC’s only log cabin.

This unique structure was built in 1936, and was originally an ice-cream parlor and luncheonette. For the past few decades it has been a real estate office. Yes, there are wooden homes, and brick and stone structures, but this is the only actual log cabin, constructed from cross-timbers, in all of New York City. It has a lovely stone base, too. I just wish they hadn’t put that large, blue sign on the side. In my opinion it takes away from the character of the cabin…

This part of Brooklyn has some charming, older churches and homes. In the WS is one of those churches, as well as a closer view of the cabin.
