Photographer's Note
There is a real back story to this one and I apologize in advance for the trite detail but I think this is a good one.
Mr. Slote is the builder of these houses, 100 or so on his house lot and more than 100 across the street where this shot was taken. If there was a workshop I would show the wide view. I drove past this place a couple of times but never stopped and then couldn’t find it again. Last winter I stumbled across it bit ALL the houses were inside being cleaned and painted. Mr. Slote is retired from the post office and does this only for the pleasure, but the real story is this: All the houses have birds in them and ALL the houses are made of CONCRETE. Talking with this gentleman was the highlight of my day.
The house have numbers, on a map that Mr. Slote keeps with his binoculars where he keeps track of his tenents.
These are all seasonal birds that do not winter over here in this part of the country. Cleaning the houses out is important because the material breaks down and degrades which attracts insects which bring disease to the birds, especially the young.
Several species, certainly not all, of the north American song birds will nest in bird houses. If there are no houses they also make their own way, but since they are so leasing to watch and listen to many people build houses, though not usually this many, to attract them. I have 7 bird houses where I live, but I build mine out of western red cedar.

Interesting story Greg,
It's so nice to see that still exist people who care for such simple things.
I think your photo is a good experiment. I guess your intention was to set the bird house in fg - slightly blurred - to get more depth and at the same time make the photo dynamic with the repetition of the same pattern. The vivid red/blue colours of the houses make them a fine focal point. However, in my humble opinion, I feel that too much room is dedicated to the shades. I would have preferred a more balanced image lights/shadows.
Somehow I prefer the second image in the ws, regarding this lights/shadows balance.
By the way, isn't the hole in the houses too small? It looks as though a normal bird would not enter into it!
Best regards,
Donato
