Photographer's Note
The Viñales Mural de la Prehistoria is the work of the former Director of Mapping at the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Leovigildo González Morillo. A master of neo-caveman artistry, Morillo undertook the massive project of portraying world history up until the age of humans on a rock wall in the Viñales Valley.
Spanning from early mollusks and other ancient sea-organisms, the rock face mural moves through the age of the dinosaurs, and ends with three giant red human figures. Both lauded as brilliant in its simplicity, and decried as an eyesore, it has taken a massive effort from the community to maintain the mural after the death of its creator.
Recently, a project to restore the paint and colors began. Unfortunately, the project took close to five years, and cost a great deal of money, once again flinging the mural into debate. Along with touch-ups to the color and design, measures have been taken to prevent erosion of the rocks around the mural.
Although the mural itself is often labeled as overhyped, the lush Viñales Valley is worth visiting and was given status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. (source : http://www.atlasobscura.com)
IL MURALE DELLA PREISTORIA
Il Murale della Preistoria, uno dei più grande affreschi del mondo, all’aperto, si erge nell’armonia del paesaggio cubano.
L’opera maestosa di 120 metri d’altezza, dipinta sulle rocce del periodo giurassico, s’incontra tre montagne del Parco Nazionale di Viñales, Paesaggio Culturale dell’Umanità. Creato nel 1959 dal pittore e scienziato Leovigildo González (discepolo del noto messicano Diego Rivera) ha sopportato le inclemenze del tempo, grazie al suo sistema di drenaggio. L’affresco rappresenta il passato bio - geologico della regione, considerata una delle terre più antiche dei Caraibi.
Composto da 12 pezzi, il Murale della Preistoria è ammirato ogni mese da circa quattromila visitatori, provenienti soprattutto da Canada, Spagna, Germania e Italia.
All’ombra di un mogote o sdraiati sull’erba, è possibile immaginare il processo evolutivo degli uomini e degli animali nella Sierra de los Órganos, meravigliosamente immersi nella natura.(fonte : siporcuba.it)

Voilà une vue qui m'évoque de bons souvenirs de visite dans cette région entre les mogotes et cette impressionnante fresque, les couleurs sont bien rendues sur ta photo, la lumière donne encore plus de relief à la paroi rocheuse.

il murale della Prehistoria e' un lavoro d' arte molto particolare ed interessante. Mi piace molto questa presentazione, lo vedo per la prima volta nella tua foto. E' interessante osservare il murale e la vegetazione completarsi e formare una collina graziosa. L' ampio terreno, la prospettiva e le casette fanno un contesto semplice e gradevole, ci offrono anche un senso di scala. Complimenti e grazie!

A singular image, where first is removed, the trees on the mountain to expose the rock, then color it and decorate with these figures, magnificent POV, with plain green.
Very effective colorful, highlighting the details of the image.

I had never seen, nor heard of, this gigantic mural, before! It is certainly a statement piece.
I like how you have included the huts and the line of guiding trees, to help us to understand the massive scale.
It's difficult to get into the debate about cost V art. We need beauty and art around us to lift our spirits and transform us from the mundane but when people are poor and the cost become exorbitant ....!

Une photo haute en couleurs pour nous faire decouvrir un endroit unique. Ces rochers peints sont en effet une idée pour le moins insolite insolite et très originale. J'avoue néanmoins qu'à part les trois silhouettes humaines, j'ai du mal à décrypter les autres dessins. La forêt environnante sert d'écrin à cette œuvre d'art et la présence des personnes nous donne un ordre de grandeur du site. Beau rendu des textures de la roche. De l'art à grande échelle !
