This is MS Roald Amundsen leaving the port of Tromsø for a week mission to explore arctic islands of Svalbard.

Cruise ship business has been hit hard by Covid-19 pandemic. Hurtigruten was one of the first companies to start cruises again after a long break. Two week long cruises were arranged from Tromsø to Svalbard starting 17th and 24th July. Northern Norway has had very low numbers of infections let alone Svalbard. So, why not?

Several days before arriving back in Tromsø on 31 July, two crew members became sick and were isolated. At the moment at least 36 crew members, and four passengers from two consecutive cruises have been tested positive. Crew and passengers were required to enter quarantine, but passengers were informed only after they had left the ship, when the first positive test results were announced.
