Assumption of the Virgin
The panel depicting the Assumption of the Virgin, in an almond of seraphim surrounded by a host of angels, the work of the Umbrian-Lazio school of the late fifteenth century, attributed to the painter Cola da Orte, is kept in a chapel of neoclassical style that opens along the right wall of the church of San Simeone, in Porchiano del Monte. At the foot of the Virgin, in a scroll unrolled across the width of the table, we read in Latin the first verse of the hymn dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Ave maris stella, recited during the Divine Office and that of the Blessed Virgin, with the singular correction of the word maris in Maria.
In the WS the whole work is a detail.
