Photographer's Note

Haukilahti is a mainly residential district in the city of Espoo, Finland. It is bordered by the Gulf of Finland to the south. Haukilahti is a quiet, peaceful district with lots of trees and park areas. Right across the road from the main residential area is the Toppelund forest, beyond which lies the seashore. There are two public beaches in Haukilahti. The eastern beach, in the Toppelund area, is smaller and quieter, and usually only visited by Haukilahtians. The western beach, in the Mellsten area, is larger and more popular. In my opinion it is the best sea beach in Espoo, although being at the seafront of an mostly open sea the swim water is often much colder than in some other beaches in Espoo.

Haukilahti has also a boat harbour, Mellsten harbour, which is home to one of Espoo's most popular yacht clubs, and includes two seaside cafés. There are over 600 places for boats.

Last Wednesday was a sunny autumn day, but there were signs of an approaching rain front with some clouds towards the evening. I decided to drive to Haukilahti beach in a hope to catch a nice sunset. And I was not disappointed. :-) This photo was taken in Melsten harbour, 20 minutes after sunset. I did not first notice the mute swan family and had to act quickly to get the swans included into the photo.
