Photographer's Note

For many a culture living on the water is an ancient form of living as this fine example of a water dwelling in Alert Bay, an important first nations community on Cormorant Island between the canadian headland and northern Vancouver Island, shows us.
Water dwellings are reported from the early iron age through out many cultures in the world and where widespread in early european society's also.
This water dwelling was found in the harbor of Alert Bay in the waning ours of the day, while waiting for the ferry back to Port McNeill. In the background the mountains of northern Vancouver Island are shrouded in the clouds of a stormy sky.
