Photographer's Note

The final image in my Light and Shadow series.

This is another view of the scene depicted in my last photo (Light and Shadow II: the Hacienda), although this image is taken from a different photograph.

While we were in Merida we visited a former hacienda and were captivated by the effects of the Mexican light, which is unlike anything I've seen before. There were numerous plastic banners from recent Christmas celebrations, which cast intricate, delicate shadows on the nearby walls.

In the last photo I included the surrounding scene, centred on a shrine to the virgin Mary. In this case I've taken the elements of light and shadow to the extreme, to the point where they are purely themselves and nothing else.

This image might not appeal to all tastes, but I liked the effect of completely stripping away all context, leaving nothing but the effects of the magical Mexican sunlight.
