Photographer's Note

This palapa is located 370 metres south and a bit west of the Pyramid of the Magician and at an intersection of paths. Eleven limestone phalli shelter in its shade. From early days, the Maya used phalli as an element of decoration on their buildings. Both Uxmal and Chichen Itzá have and had Temples of the Phalli. Additionally, phalli were elements alive with fertility, cultural and religious implications, along with masturbation and male orgasm. The Maya worshipped a god of fertility - Yum Keep.
