Photographer's Note

Mike's Mountain stands above Bahia de Los Angeles on the east side of the Baja Peninsula.

Mike was an odd character who lived near this spot. He made ponds to collect rain water and would only occasionally hike down the mountain to the village. Rumor had it that he died on the mountain, but that was reputed by locals who said he died in a hospital (sometime in the '70s, I think.)

It makes a great hike on a steep rough trail. As you get up higher, the desert plants are amazingly strange. The plant in the foreground is called a "Bojum Tree" (from Lewis Carol books.) You can ask at the local Museum for directions to the trail.
