Photographer's Note

On rainy days like this it was easy to get lost in thought.

Now especially, at the bus stop,
there's little else to do.

She was waiting again,
She always seemed to be waiting for something.

~It was the wet asphalt~
That was what her melodramatic thoughts convinced her of:
The wet asphalt was like a mirror to her

In it she saw herself,
Her good posture <“it’s important to hold yourself with pride”>
Her white hair <”it’s a mark of wisdom isn’t it?”>
Her dignity <”not like these kids today.”>

The kids.

There were kids all around her yapping, yapping, yapping.

But her focus was
on those two across the street
with the water dripping off their umbrellas
on to each others shoulder
because they’re walking so close together
laughing.

Where was that bus she wondered! <“Oh Lord, I hate when it’s late.”>

And she went back to waiting.

This is the third in my Rainy Day series. The others were: Goodbye to Summer and A Sense of Foreboding

I composed this shot around walkers and that tree. It's when I got home that I noticed right smack-dab in the middle of the frame that lady in white. I don't know about you but it's she that transfixed me.

Post-pro: convert to b/w; levels; curves; select large oval, inverse, feather, copy, levels again; flatten; new copy blurred +4 and opacity 35%
