on july 2nd 2003, when the international olympic committee selected vancouver as the host city of the 2010 winter olympic and paralympic games, an incredible honor and responsibility was also bestowed upon whistler. along with vancouver, wistler blackcomb and the community of whistler became an official olympic venue.

the resort of whistler was infact born on an olympic dream. franz wilhemsen, the man who opened whistler for skiing in the 1960's, did so in the hopes of hosting the games here. in the following years, some whistlerites have been a part of the games as athletes, spectators and organizers. now, everyone in whistler will have the unique chance to participate in this once in a life time opportunity.

the 2010 winter olympics, officially known as the XXI olympic winter games, are the next olympics. the games are being organized by the vancouver organizing committee for the 2010 olympic and paralympic games (VANOC).

the event is returning to north america eight years after salt lake city hosted the games in 2002.

the 2010 winter olympics will be the third olympics hosted by canada, and the first by the province of BC. previously, canada was home to the 1976 summer olympics in montreal, and the 1988 winter olympics in calgary.
