Hey-hey-hey, Peter - not that close to the train!
About your note: I don't think there are many people that can say they're really 100% satisfied with their photos at the moment of uploading - sometimes, spending too much time with them (photos) during editing causes sort of loss of ability to look at them as like when we look at other peoples' photos... or we dicover so many possibilities where editing can take us that we find ourselves almost unable to choose which way to go, if you know what I mean...
About the photo: a classic motif but done in a very subtle way that gives me immense pleasure while looking at it.
Very successful b/w conversion with good highlights and middle tones, contrast, graininess and vignetting.
Can I find a flaw? Maybe, but I can't be bothered spending time picking for flaws instead of enjoying the scene!

Hi Peter,
I agree with Robi's comment,everytime we aren't really satisfied.But me,I like this one and the atmosphere given by B&W choose. Same a scene of a crazy train who cannot stop..!

Hi Peter, this is a very dynamic and dramatic looking capture. I love the motion blur and tilt of the doubledecker and the grainy look. The outdoor type is definetily a bonus here. I have to say that your addiction has its benifits for the TE community and the municipality of Newmarket should be proud of you. Well done.

what's wrong with your photo ? a good compo, i like the dynamism given by the blured train, the frame and the tilt. Good conversion to b&w ...
Sometimes i'm satisfied of one photo, but most of my photo make me unsatisfied, because as many of us i want to catch the perfection ... but don't forget : "nobody's perfect"

Hey Peter, This is a really strong photo. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the tracks and shot photos in b&w, all of mine unsuccessful, so I know just how hard it is to get a good shot. There is something just powerful about this: the b&w with the gnarly sky and the chevrons on the moving train.

I know what you mean about feeling like you're uploading so-so pictures :( Me too.

Its a great composition, i love the blurred train too..moody sky, funny writing on the house..really great POV

(PS. but something is missing as you say; a human element; like someone on the roof, or someone falling down the roof..

First off, you're the second person to be uploading from Newmarket, the first being yours truly! ;)

Secondly, this is a fantastic shot! Great sense of motion and a wierd mood of almost foreboding, but then there's the "fun" rock-climbing sign.

A unique and well conceived daily life shot, Peter. The distortion seems to enhance the vibrancy of the scene. The POV is interesting - almost as if you were a mole peering from the surface of the earth. Good clarity on the buildings. Well done.

hi peter,

i really like how you captured the motion of the train in this shot! and, once again, i love the high contrast b&w.

you might not be 100% happy with your upload but you are capturing the real world and not anything posed or contrived for the camera, i think that's what really counts! (you might want to try out the philosophy of capturing everything interesting that you possibly can in the frame regardless of the angle you have to take it at...)

This is my first time running into this masterpiece, Peter. Let me just say this is one of the most outstanding shots in all of TE. Incredibly romantic and vibrant - great story telling and also very much a North American shot. I lived in the American midwest (Minnesota) for eight years, and I KNOW the feeling of these trains hurtling along with th whistle blowing among the silos (praie castles we used to call them).
This is prime stuff, prime stuff...

This is a great shot Peter and I am still figuring out why you had doubts about it. Guess you suffer from the same self-critique disease that I do. I never know either... This goes strictly to my railroad theme. The strong and charged b&w is very good but it is the composition that really wins me over. Your low pov gets me straight into the action. Ouch!
