Photographer's Note

The first time I visited Mistaya Canyon, nearly 8 years ago, it was overcast and the water was a light brown from all the silt in it. Hardly an appealing sight. But I've seen so many beautiful pictures of this spot that last summer, as I was driving to Parker Ridge, I thought I'd give it another chance. After all, it was a perfectly sunny day, and I reckoned it was early enough that the sun hadn't yet illuminated the falls. Meaning that with a graduated neutral density filter, I could get a decent long exposure.

It was a good call to stop. The sun was just illuminating the Mistaya River as I walked back to the car. I also explored downstream a little and saw more of the actual canyon portion of Mistaya Canyon. Lovely, though I didn't really take any photos of it.
