Photographer's Note
This is the entrance to one of the branch libraries of the large Toronto Public Library system. Only the entrance shown, because it is the best part of this attractive post modern building. It was opened in 1995, and has a large collection of children's books and science fiction books. The architect, Phillip H. Carter, incorporated elements into his design, such as the giant bronze griffins flanking the central doorway or the dungeon-like basement, to complement the subjects of the collections. Appropriately the branch is named after Lillian H. Smith, the first trained children’s librarian in Canada who devoted 40 of her working years to the development of the children’s collection within the Toronto Public Library.

Hello Barnabas,
I like this tight and symetrical framing of the entrance well guarded by the two sculptures. The reflections on the windows add to the composition.
Best regards

Hello Barnabas,
This entrance is definitely attractive. It has a feeling from the past, with the large arch and bronze griffins. You get the feeling that you are entering a special place. I also like the brickwork and the lights on the facade. Nice presentation with excellent symmetry.

Hi Barnabas,
Those statues are wonderful, I think Griffins are one of the greatest mythical creatures, and the one here is very noble and beautifully designed. What an entrance, and once again a surprise to me, if I saw this photo without your note, these classical statues would automatically make me think this was a much older building
Great scene of this original and attractive entrance. And you got a self portrait too!
Thanks as always
Noel
