Photographer's Note
Mr. Patrick McKenzie. A retired firefighter. In the graveyard of the old pump trucks.
He'll bring the money home at the end of the day - no more...

Althoguh it hasn't caught my eye in the 1st glance, after enlarging, couldn't take my eyes of it ! This man has giant hands and his face tells a life story, it's not a fun one ! very deep, I love it !

I like the portrait of this rugged, old man next to the firetruck. I like his stance, expression, and the machinery details next to him. Simple and evocative.

I love this pic, George! This man has a face, but what a face...! His face, his wonderful, sweet and strong face, told to us all his life. A brave, sweet, strong, hard adventure...
Bravissimo, G.G.!

Incredible... This photo had 98 points in your previous life... :((
Ok, it's a little different. The PP is way better this time, in my - yes - modest opinion, though maybe a notch on the darker side. Yet... we see the man. We can feel his craggy face... And his humanity...
I will repeat what I've said in my first critique for this photo. I’m working in occupational health & safety and firefighters are one of our clients. I can tell you that their work is very exacting. Physically. Psychologically. I have a lot of admiration for them.
I really think the strong point of this photo is the way he is leaning towards the truck, his look to something out of sight, and the way his right hand lay on his leg. A very wonderful portrait of a man in his World.
Am I crazy? It seems to me that you had posted the picture of his grandson, but I can't see it anymore. Have I dreamed it?

What a fantastic distortion. Better, what a fantastic idea for a distortion. Beautiful shot. Great dark mood. Amazing combination of colors. Love that dark red and all the machinery behind him.
Take care bro...

This was one of the first photographs I saw in your gallery that really impacted me... This is a strong picture... a powerful portrait of a great man... he is iron, like his old pump truck...
Love the dark red behind him, his posture and HIS HANDS!
Spectacular!
Bravo George!

This portrait is so expressive that I feel like you must have talked to him for some time; it seems to tell about his whole life. As a retired professional firefighter, his stories must be heroic. He seems comfortable hanging around the fire station; I can't imagine a man like that ever really retiring! The background colors are perfect. I didn't see the original post, but Claire mentions you darkened it here, and I think that really adds to the mood of it. I'm no photographer to begin with (I'm on TE out of pure curiosity), but I do wish I could take simple, creative photos of people as you do! I'll try the tip you give about photographing people at work.
