Photographer's Note

Canada has a long history of logging. A dangerous way, and a very hard way to make a living. Nowadays there is more and more mechanization and the old skills of the expert loggers may be lost. To celebrate these hardy men and their skills, and to keep those skills alive, there are fairs and competitions where these loggers gather and compete. This one was at Campbell River in Vancouver Island this August. This logger has just cut down through the log to cut off the first circle of wood and then took his chainsaw back up through the log to complete the second cut. I love the look of concentration on his face, the power in his arms through to the saw and the woodchips flying everywhere.
A glimpse of our Canadian heritage.
