Maligne Lake is one of the major highlights of Jasper National Park - a beautiful, big lake surrounded by mountains and forests. It is also big enough for there to be boat trips. I've posted several photos taken around and on the lake previously in 2012 and 2013 (follow the Maligne Lake link above for those).
This photo was taken from near where the boat trips start and was taken into the very bright sun so I took it at a very high shutter speed (1/1000 sec).

Nice to see what I missed. It was closed for maintenance and no boats were running when I was there in October 2008. Well managed backlight with good sharpness. Tfs!

Hello Ian,
The fast shutter speed worked well. The contrasts are strong but the exposure is perfect and the photo is razor sharp. You placed the reflections in the lake nicely between the silhouettes of two trees. The distant mountains have a fine, hazy tone.

Hello Ian,
Your previous photographs were mainly about scenery and its impact; this time, because of the contre-jour, this seems much more bout atmosphere. Your photograph has captured a very romantic view of the lake and mountains.
The slightly altering hues on the mountain b/g would be a great study for a water colour painter.

The length of the lake is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the trees and of the mountains. The backlight has a special effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian, your use of a fast shutter speed worked really well.
The sunlight is captured beautifully shining across the water.
I like the silhouetted trees.
The different tones of grey of the mountains provide the sense of depth.

wow this is a spectacular scenery! The exposure is amazing, I am glad you mentioned the exposure time. Sometimes I wonder how to take photos like that.
Great level of contrast, the surface of the lake is so shiny! and there are charming little reflexes stretching closer to the viewer.
The mountains look magnificent. Their silhouettes are so nicely graduated with different brightness.
The tree silhouettes decorate the scene as well.

A beautiful view of the lake with the silver reflections of the sunlight. The hazy silhouettes of the mountains are also wonderful and the dark trees in the foreground add a great contrast.

Managed fairly well with the backlight, Ian, glittering over the water and contrast the shaded trees in the FG, while a good view towards the mountains on far.
