Photographer's Note
In the Basilica Notre Dame in Montreal, there is a smaller cathedral just behind the original one. This was built as the large one would be under-utilized for smaller gatherings, and the smaller one provided a more intimate and personal space.
This Cathedral was originally completely built of wood, and was, in 1978, a victim of arson. it was completely destroyed, but painstakingly restored, and opened again in 1982.
The natural sunlight lights the space well, but creates a lot of problems for photography too... The contrast is simply too much :)
The structure you see in the center of the image is cast out of bronze and weights about 20 tons, made of many pieces.
