Photographer's Note
Abraham Erb's Grist Mill was constructed in the summer of 1816. Local farmers built the stone foundation and basement. On top of the foundation, they raised a two-storey building with a gable at one end. The interior featured posts and beams of local timber, most likely from Erb's Saw Mill. It was necessary to raise the edges of a beaver pond to store enough water to supply the mill. Today, the mill sits on Caroline St. North to the east of Silver Lake (the beaver pond) and the Perimeter Institute, its original site. Water-flow from Silver Lake exits into Beaver Creek.
