Photographer's Note
Come September, many women rush to the malls to find the newest accessories and clothing for the coming season. As I was meandering about with my Nikon yesterday at The Bay, I found this semi-naked mannequin that seemed to occupy the tired gaze of the man sitting docilely, waiting for his wife who was busying herself in one of the fitting rooms.
The colour version is in the Workshop... couldn't really make my mind up.

Beautiful image, I cannot really say if I prefer the B&W version or the colour one.
B&W makes me think about an image coming from the 1950's, while the Colour version has excellent contrasts of colours and it's much more.... fashion to my eyes.
Good job in both cases!!

a hard choice between the two vesrions, both are wonderful, i think. its reallz curious how the man is watching the lifeless
manequin with lifeless stare , bored perhaps, perhaps tired. shopping with a wife can make zou feel a lot worse i guess;) fantastic composition as usual, Iąm back to look at zour photos and learn.

Hi Sasa,
Nice to see you're uploading pics again.
I looked at both versions and it's funny how in the b/w one the dummies take centerstage, whereas in the color one, because of the blue jeans jacket the guy is wearing, the guy becomes a stronger voice in the conversation. I think I like your b/w version more.
The textures are so different in the two versions...! Look at the red jacket on the mannequin, or at the jeans in the back...

A very nice "frozen moment", Sasa, which captures the feel of boredom and our search for even the vaguest distraction from it. And the mannequins even appear to share the same mood.
I would vote with the B/W--the red is a nice accent, but the walls are a rather unattractive green color, so overall color isn't adding anything.

I agree with the previous comment, i definately prefer the contrast between the green and red in the photo, it really pops. but it's still an excellent shot.

If Leonard Cohen is the Bard of Montreal, Sasa, you are definitely Ottawa'S long lost poet - just what the city needed. Another stunning piece of work with mannequins, the one live sould thrown back in a subtle bokeh.
Wonderful stuff - I say it again: your work is of the highest importance on TE because it ISNPIRES each and everyone of us. You take turns we had not even imgined were there (in marked contrast to my simple little tales that anyone with the right equipment could shoot - quite honestly).

hahaha! the 'boyfriend' mannequin seems a tad upset...
nicely seen Sarolta, nice BW image, well controlled light, and funny moment. It kind of reminds me of mrbialy's humour (but in bw).

I really wonder how you manage to get such a beautiful black and white conversion. These gray tones are just so amazing I don't have the courage anymore to look at my conversions !
The colour version was good too. Maybe the BW conversion helps to dramatize the scene, to show how alone they can feel and put the dolls and this man on the same level of loneliness.

Hi Sarolta, you have captured an image with which most husbands can empathise! Nice triangular composition of the man and the mannequins with just enough hint of the surroundings to know what is going on. Good tonal range too. And, yes, it works better in B&W. If the colour doesn't add anything, better to leave it out. Stephen

i'm so used to your sepia that in fact the full colour (although excellent) somehow looks less appealing to me;
i quite often admire your skills to "capture" this type of scenes, and how often you "use" for them the dummies is quite a different story/"surprise";
actually - the gazing man looks like a mannequin himself, but who wouldnt aftert 3 hours of shopping with your wife?

Hi Sasa, a fantastic image in BW and also the colour version, with the red so strong in a green wall!!!But also in BW is a beautiful shot!so graphic with the mannequin in foreground and the man in background with this look!!Amazing moment Sasa!!!

Well, I love both. That color version with that red shirt against that pastel green is amazing but this b&w tights the whole composition just as fine. Incredible light in the naked mannequin. The man in the bokeh staring at the inanimate dolls was very well seen. A great photo indeed Sasa!

I'm amazed with the silent dialog between your flesh character and the dummies... something that kicks us back to Buster Keaton's silent movies. This why BW would be totally appropriate IMO (although green color scores high in my preferences).

Come September and as every year my wife will have a 2 weeks of meetings in Santa Clara.
And as every September she'll run to the malls of the Silicon Valley to buy...all... as some millions of women...
Damn...just to some years ago the US Dollars was too strong for our poor Italian Lira...with the Euro we can buy clothes as candies....
so...in the late September there will be a big, big box of clothes, shoes and something more that will flight from SF to Milan...
it's a beautiful artistical shot Sasa...but i'm not able to thing to the next weeks....and your mannequins image and note remind me that....

You did make up your mind and made the right choice Sasa. Much better in Sepia. First, it takes away the bothersome colors (yeah, to me they are now getting bothersome which shows you how deep Ive stepped into b/w), and allows us to focus in the simple basics: the man's strange obsession with a naked plastic mannequin. A lot of sexuality beats from this photo. Secondly, sepia is much more your thing, we come to put the two words together: Sasa+Sepia.

I think this one subliminally influenced my choice of subject matter today-- I saw a semi-naked mannequin in Toronto and worked it into a photograph also...
Nicely composed with really smooth tones and contrast; interesting story also of the man seemingly doing the very thing he's not supposed to...
