Photographer's Note
Yesterday we had a lovely 5 centimetres of snow. Overnight we had a freezing rain -- not so lovely for traffic, but superb for people like us!
The skies cleared for about an hour and a half -- just long enough for me to take about a hundred photos (^_^).
And now the snow is flying again: I think we're getting the whole winter's worth of weather inside a 48-hour period!

Hi Silke
This will be the way our streets are going to look very soon here,we are in the middle of it right now.
A photo with lots of contrast, shade on one ide of the street and full sun on the other. Here, the difficulty is in getting a well exposed image on both extreme, good details in the shade and no overexposition in the lit area.A camera sees 5 zones of light.Zone 3 is black and zone 8 is white, here you have about 6 zones,an impossible task for a camera.Enters the filters,a NDgrad neutral grey1,2,or 3 stops.in this composition,it should be inserted with the dark part of the filter on the middle right,a one-stop should suffice.
You can also make a reading on the bright snow, after the car on the right, then recompose with this reading. The white will be exposed just right and the dark will be darker with a loss of details, which will be acceptable in this composition.
Tomorrow,I am planning to go out with my camera and see what I could find.
Good work here in showing the world, the afterlook of a city coming out of a snowstorm.
Have a good WE
Charles

Hi Silke. Good composition showing how cold it is in Ontario at present. Good POV and clarity. Interesting for us in too-hot countries to see the other side of the coin. Good work. Murray.

Hi Silke,
A good POV of the trees covered with ice and of the snow, the photo has a good composition, DOF and nice colors. In my area we got 30cm of snow. Have a nice day.

Hi Silke,
You've got these winter images down to an art!
I like this snow covered street. The bright light in the foreground tries to give a false impression of warmth but IMO the cold is well enphasised by the emptiness of the street and the abundant leafless trees. You gave a lot of thought to where you wanted to stand and nicely composed the image. When will spring arrive?Take care....keep warm!

Hi Silke,
Lovely capture of the fresh winter's weather before it is spoiled by the annoying plows that leave a thing of dirt on this lovely white carpet.
