Photographer's Note
Hagia Sophia or Holy Wisdom is the mother church of all Eastern Christians of the Byzantine liturgical tradition both Orthodox and Greek Catholic. Early accounts suggest that the site of this, the grandest church in Christendom, in the first millennium had been the site of a pagan temple appropriated for the service of the new religion. The first church on the site was built by the Eastern Roman Emperor Constantius, son of Emperor Constantine, who had liberated the Christian faith from centuries of persecution. Constantius' church was consecrated in 360 AD.
Hagia Sophia was first named "Megale Ekklesia" (The Great Church) as it was the largest church in Constantinople (Istanbul today). The historian Socrates indicated that the church was named Sophia during the reign of Emperor Constantius. The name given to the church symbolized the second divine attribute of the Holy Trinity. Originally, Sophia, which means "Holy Wisdom", was a name given to Christ by 4th century theologians. For centuries it stood at the heart of two of the world's great religions: To Christians it was Hagia Sophia, Church of the Holy Wisdom, mother church of the Orthodox faith, and of the thousand year old Byzantine Empire. To Muslims, it became Ayasofya Camii, Mosque of Holy Wisdom and jewel of Istanbul. Today its one of the two most important Museums in Turkey.

Hello Lucie,
Good choice to use a higher f stop, certainly did what it was intended to do, to give the shot extreme sharpness. The long exposure has done a good job with the clouds.

Une scène de nuit aux belles couleurs pastels. J'aime beaucoup la couleur du ciel.
L'image est peut-être un peu sous-exposée mais apporte une belle ambiance de fin journée.

Excellent Lucie. It is nice to see our Hagia Sophie from your eyes. Your exposure is spot-on as usual. Your pov manages to reflect the grandeur of the place. If you were (or still are) here, why didn't you meet some TE members. I know they would be happy to see you.

Hi Lucie;
Nice evening shot. I like the softness of the clouds as a result of long exposure. Have you tried with smaller f number? Personally I found out that my lens - the Canon 18-40mm F4 - performs much better at f16 and smaller. Therefore I try to avoid f22...

You're correct...this must be one of the "Mother of Churches", which has been photographed to an endless degree, but like always, you've managed to give it additional life and character. The tight cropping makes us focus purely on the church and it's form, and the slow speed has created some movement in the sky, which adds additional impact. Well done.

This church has been build in 532 and 537 on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian . It was designed by Isidore of Miletus, a physicist, and Anthemius of Tralles, a mathematician.
The 4 towers around the church has been added by Turks after they conquered Constantinopole.
Very nice picture, excelent sharpness and colors.
