Photographer's Note
Chora church (Turkish: Kariye Müzesi, Kariye Camii, or Kariye Kilisesi — the Chora Museum, Mosque or Church) is probably one of the most beautiful museums of Istanbul. It's relatively dificult to find, compared to marvels such as Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi palace, the Basilica Sistern, that are very close the one to the other, but it's an absolute "must see"!!!
It's mostly famous for its fantastics mosaics (considered the best sample of late Byzantine art, also know as "The Palaeologian Renaissance") but you can also see some fantastic frescos, like this one (CLOSER VIEW IN WORKSHOP).
MORE INFO ABOUT CHORA CHURCH FROM WIKIPEDIA:
"The Chora Church was originally built outside the walls of Constantinople, to the south of the Golden Horn. Literally translated, the church's full name was the Church of the Holy Saviour in the Country: although "The Church of the Holy Redeemer in the Fields" would be a more natural rendering of the name in English. (Greek: Η Εκκλησία του Αγίου Σωτήρος εν τη Χώρα, hē Ekklēsia tou Hagiou Sōtēros en tē Chōra).[2] The last part of that name, Chora, referring to its location originally outside of the walls, became the shortened name of the church. The original church on this site was built in the early 5th century, and stood outside of the 4th century walls of Constantine the Great. However, when Theodosius II built his formidable land walls in 413–414, the church became incorporated within the city's defences, but retained the name Chora. The name must have carried symbolic meaning, as the mosaics in the narthex describe Christ as the Land of the Living (H Χώρα των ζώντων, hē Chōra tōn zōntōn) and Mary, the Mother of Jesus, as the Container of the Uncontainable (Η Χώρα του Αχώρητου, hē Chōra tou Achōrētou) ( MORE+++...). Hello dear Hercules,
This part of the Chora church (paraclesion) is for me the cream de la cream.
The taste oft those wonderfull frescoes is unique and amazing.
Here you've utilised a perfect pov just the contrary way of the mostly used pov, and this helped you to get use of the available and daylight. Which again created this marvellous light effect !
Another İstanbuline entry with good and usefull notes.
I've posted also a WS with my most beloved fresco of Kariye !
TFS and best regards

PS.I've just started to play with the idea to create a photographic exhibition with both in Athens and in İstanbul.
With your captures of İstanbul (and maybe some others as well; like Argiris, Constantino, Georgios etc) in İstanbul and than another one with captures from Greece made by Korkut, me, Deniz etc, in Athens. I also have the title of it : "MERHABA ATİNA - HERE İSTANBUL" !

Hello Hercules.
I find this dome, taken from the bottom, is really unique for the different tones on the left and right of the shot.
The effect is very pleasant and successful.

Hello Hercules,
The interiors of this Church are fantastic and incredibly decorated. The POV that you used in this case is perfect to create great geometry and an outstanding graphical effect.
I like this version more than the WS one.
Great work very well realized.

Hi Hercules,
I can say that the Chora church was the most impressive sight I've seen in Istanbul (perhaps because I didn't erxpect it, like in the case of Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque.. :D).
The wide angle offers a superb view on the dome. The lights are fantastically controlled: the frescos are so clear and the strong light coming from outside don't disturb the view.
TFS!
All the best,
Marci
