Photographer's Note
This is the entrance to Atlı Köşk (Equestrian Villa). On the first floor of the villa, antique furniture and part of the Sabancıs’ painting collection are displayed while upstairs houses primarily the calligraphy collection. The workshop displays another photo of the entrance from a different point of view.
In 1925, Prince Mehmed Ali Hasan of the Khedive* family commissioned the Italian architect Edouard De Nari to build the villa, now the museum's main building, and it was used as a summer house for many years by various members of the Khedive family. After the mansion was purchased in 1951 by industrialist Hacı Ömer Sabancı from the Khedive family as a summer residence, it came to be known as Atlı Köşk, “The Mansion with the Horse”, because of the statue of a horse (purchased in the same year) that was installed in the garden; the statue is the 1864 work of the French sculptor Louis Doumas.
*The term Khedive (Ottoman Turkish: Hıdiv) is a title largely equivalent to the English word viceroy. It was first used, without official recognition, by Muhammad Ali Pasha (Turkish: Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Paşa, General Muhammad Ali of Kavala), the governor of Egypt and Sudan, and vassal of the Ottoman Empire. The initially self-declared title was officially recognized by the Ottoman government in 1867, and used subsequently by Ismail Pasha, and his dynastic successors until 1914.
*Hıdiv terimi (Osmanlı Türkçe: Hıdiv) İngilizce kelime viceroy’a (genel vali) büyük ölçüde eşdeğer bir başlıktır.

Hi Murat,
This reminds me of the Romanian royal family castle at Peles. The stairs add strong lead in lines and the magenta carpet is striking. Good warm cold colors of tan and blue. Tfs!
