Photographer's Note
Weather in Kuwait seems to be unpredictable sometimes. I was planning blue hour shoot as the weather during the day was very nice, but as soon as I got outside about an hour before sunset, you could hardly see anything. One of those (by now) familiar dust storms had hit Kuwait. I didn’t want to give up and got to the beach to wait for the sun to go down with the everywhere present sand disabling visibility. I have however liked the atmosphere it created and the fact that low tide had revealed few stones on the beach.I decided to try to take few shots. This photo is a result of colorless sunset where the filter is the dust. I like the unusual (rather haunting) effect it has created. The sun had disappeared behind the layer of dust probably at this level above the sea just few minutes after I took this shot. No digital manipulation to this photo, it was taken in full color mode.
A dust storm or sandstorm is a meteorological phenomenon common in arid and semi-arid regions and arises when a gust front passes or when the wind force exceeds the threshold value where loose sand and dust are removed from the dry surface. Particles are transported by saltation and suspension, causing soil erosion from one place and deposition in another. The Sahara and drylands around the Arabian peninsula are the main source of airborne dust, with some contributions from Iran, Pakistan and India into the Arabian Sea, and China's storms deposit dust in the Pacific.

Hello,
For sure, the lightning is really original on this view. But it is increased by the composition well balanced: the stones in foreground and the sun partially hidden by the sand storm.
I like a lot the long time exposure on the waves, it ends to provide an original view.
Yves.

Hi Lucie,
This look more like a SciFi scene. Excellent composition showing smoothness and good details. The colours enhance the atmosphere very well. Nice work!

Hi Lucie
wonderful picture. The nuances of mauve are magnificent. The foreground is great with these some pebbles on the sand. The sun in clouds forms a perfect circle Congratulations.

Hello Lucie,
I’ll just add few words in addition to all feedback you received with this picture. The sea captures anyway most of us... captured this wide angle way, with the stones, smooth waves and clear sky...what to say impressing? Excellent? May be just, a fine picture....Thanks for sharing this dramatic view...

Hello Lucie,
A fine original view brought in delicate unusual tones of grey-brown with a touch of purple.
You created indeed a strange atmosphere, looks a little unearthy.

Paul

Hi Lucie,
You've achieved a very unusual image here and one that's very appealing. If I hadn't read your note I would have said that was the moon in the shot such is the effect of the dust filter. Love the detail in the sand.

Hello Lucie,
Une ambiance nocturne très bien mise en avant par ton cadrage et par le coté sombre de la vue. J'aime beaucoup la luminosité de l'avant plan et les détails que l'on peut y observer.
Bravo !

Dag Lucie,
Your mkII fits perfect in your hands, superb quality in the hands of someone who knows what he/she is doing. You captured a great effect here with the low shutter and the moon above, but what i like most is the colour of the sand, the textures, even on this small size very well visible....wonderful photo with a great moody atmosphere.

Henk

Nice atmosphere thanks both to the sand storm and the long exposure on the waters. the rocks at the FG are the elements to finish the image

Great shot, Lucie, with an extraterrestrial feeling to it, as if they've just discovered water on the moon. Also it's great to see a picture from this country we don't see many of. Perfect two seconds!

Hi Lucie!
When I returned from India with Kwait airlines, there was heavy rain at the airport, how strange, but I loved it.
What a great shot. How simple,a shore, some waves and a full moon. The long exposuretimecreates a great effect and I like the colors a lot.

How I love bad weather photographs. This one works perfectly with the dark wet sand and the threatening dark sky and wild ocean.

I must say, this is really a succesful shot! Fantastic low point of view gives some details to the foreground and makes the perspective very dynamic. Very unusual lighting and beautiful weather situation! Best Regards Steve. P.S. Hope you get great light in Scotland. If your going near Skye and the weather is dark and brooding Id recommend the fairy pools in Glenbrittle..
