Photographer's Note
The Dead Sea (Hebrew: יָם הַמֶּלַח, Yām Ha-Melaḥ, "Sea of Salt"; Arabic: البَحْر المَيّت, al-Baḥr l-Mayyit, "Dead Sea") is a salt lake between Israel and the West Bank to the west, and Jordan to the east. It is 422 metres (1,385 ft) below sea level, and its shores are the lowest point on the surface of the Earth on dry land. The Dead Sea is 378 m (1,240 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. It is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with 33.7 percent salinity. Only Lake Assal (Djibouti), Garabogazköl and some hypersaline lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond and perhaps Lake Vanda) have a higher salinity. It is 8.6 times as salty as the ocean. This salinity makes for a harsh environment where animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 67 kilometres (42 mi) long and 18 kilometres (11 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River.
The Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. Biblically, it was a place of refuge for King David. It was one of the world's first health resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers. People also use the salt and the minerals from the Dead Sea to create cosmetics and herbal sachets.
My trip to Jordan was extremely rewarding with an amazing light and scenes. The weather was bit different than many people imagine Middle East is like. It was extremely windy and stormy, not the blue sky we all have in mind for place like Jordan. Weather like that didnt allow me to take my long exposures which I was hoping for, however the colors in the sky made up for it. I'd also like to mention that you need significantly strong will to get up early in the morning from that lovely warm bed and to go out to that freezing wind but once you are out there taking photos like these you are happy you've done that. I have of course no chance to float in the Dead Sea this time...

Bonjour Lucie,
Quelle ambiance, j'adore !!!!
Ce ciel est effroyablement dramatique et inquiétant, mais les lumières à la surface de le mer si merveilleuses.
Excellent cadrage avec une oblique qui partage l'image.
Bien vu.
Regards.
Daniel.

It really looks dead the Dead Sea! The scene is quite interesting as it seems like a tourist resort. I like the dramatic sky with its dark colours. Well done.

Bonjour Lucie
Une très belle composition de cette plage déserte avec juste les parasols sur le sable ocre et une mer argentée. Le ciel menaçant donne une belle ambiance à l'ensemble.
Merci pour le partage et bonne journée.

Hello Lucie,
Not the usual postcard view of the dead sea shores! A fine contrast between the dark sky and the sun umbrella's. Well composed too. The deserted beach adds to create an atmosphere of apprehension for what is coming...

Hello Lucie,
Une image très attrayante par sa profondeur, sa netteté et la qualité irréprochable de l'image. Les couleurs sont très belles et apportent à l'image toute sa beauté. J'aime beaucoup la compo avec ces 2 parasols très bien placés.
Bravo !

Hi Lucie
Great composition and as others have said, not the usual view of this place. For some reason I have never though to of the dead sea as a place to go sun bathing, but the umbrellas suggest that some people do!

Hi Lucie,
Not only is the light magnificent like usual but you have exploited the graphical qualities of the subject to a maximum.
Very nice and creative composition out of everyday elements.

Ahoj Lucko,
Super jednoducha kompozice, ale velmi promyslena a pritahujici pozornost, bez toho plotu by to uz nebylo ono. Krasne kontrastni a barevne poutava diky te tmave obloze.
Skvele.
posilam Pozdravy.

Hi Lucie
I can believe you about the light as I had similar conditions when working in a Moshav just south of the Dead Sea along the Jordanian border. What I don't remember on the Israeli side were parasols and a fence although it was many years ago. Did you have a "swim" ?
Anyway I love the contrasts and the way the water shines. Good depth too.

Hello Lucie,
There is a surreal element in this minimalist image, evocative Salvador Dali. I see that it was submitted by chance on my birthday, I like it very much. The composition, colors and resolution collaborate in the manner of the instruments in a good symphony orchestra.
Warm regards,

Bonjour Lucie,
Un ciel bien sombre où les parasols pourraient bien vite servir de parapluie.
Belle composition
Amitiés
Vincent
